What The Bible Has To Say About Marriage
The Bible has sold more than any other books and was actually the first book ever printed by the printed press. People quote it the world over, and yet many don’t even know the words of wisdom it has to impart. The Bible is God’s plan for the world. It speaks of every topic that’s of value to mankind and lets Christians know how God wants us to handle any given situation. The Bible talks about marriage a lot. God tells us that he created woman because he didn’t intend for man to be alone. A woman provides procreation and companionship for man. So what else does the Bible say about marriage?
God tells us exactly what he defines marriage as in the Bible. Marriage is the result of a union shared by a man and a woman. Right there He lets us know that other types of unions aren’t okay, and then He goes on to tell us the sin that many have partaken in. In the book of Romans, his disciple, Paul, tells us about God’s wrath against mankind. Paul said that God really got mad when “their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones with lust for one another.” He also discussed how “Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”
We can clearly understand the way that true husbands and wives are supposed to act even with the examples provided by Paul. Unfortunately, some of this advice can be unpalatable to modern women, and we need to keep in mind that Paul was speaking to an ancient audience within the morals of that time. Women are told to obey their husbands and allow them to be the heads of the households. And husbands are told to leave their mothers and fathers and love their wives as themselves.
One cannot find anywhere in the Bible that discusses plans for divorce. In the book of Matthew, Jesus clearly says “anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness and marries another woman commits adultery.” Jesus says that one should only get married if you can accept the marital teachings. One doesn’t have to get married just to show devotion to the church.
